Twitter FarkIt Type Size A A A A New Hope man has been charged with making terroristic threats after a post on Craigslist threatened harm to Somalis attending a cultural event at St. Cloud State University.
James Scott Miller, 49, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail without conditions or $5,000 with several conditions, including that he not possess firearms and that he stay away from St. Cloud State.
A court complaint charging Miller accuses him of threatening to come to a Somali cultural night Saturday and harm attendees of the event. The event had been advertised on Craigslist and listed the admissions price as $10 per person.
Shortly after the event invitation was posted, someone posted a response that read: “I’ll bring my rifle. I’ll gladly pay $10 for target practice.”
A Cold Spring resident saw the post and called St. Cloud State, and university officials contacted St. Cloud police.
Investigators were able to identify Miller as the person who posted the comment, and Miller admitted to them that he posted the comment, according to the court complaint.
Officers spoke to Miller, who told them that he made the post because he lives in an apartment building with a large Somali population and that he’s mad at them because “they have no respect for anyone else in this building,” according to the complaint.
